Our philanthropy Breast Cancer Education, and Awareness is something we hold very close to our hearts. Some of our favorite memories in ZTA come from our work to raise awarness and support research. Did you know that each year one in eight women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer? Our chapter works to combat the disease through a variety of activitys aimed at raising awareness and education about this breast cancer in our area!
Every year we hold our annual "Big Man on Campus" show to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. Big Man on Campus is an all male beauty pageant where the contestants participate in an opening dance, runway walks, a talent contest, and a question and answer session. The contestant who impresses the judges the most wins the title of Big Man on Campus! Awards are also given out for Best Dressed, Most Talented, and Crowd Favorite.
Sisters from across Maryland at the Redskins Pink Out game in 2014
Every year our chapter volunteers along with other ZTA chapters in Maryland to spread awareness and education about Breast Cancer at both the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens NFL Pink Out games. We pass out pink Breast Cancer ribbons at the stadium fans to help spread awarness. Along with helping to promote Breast Cancer Awareness and Education we get to see what an impact our work truly has on the community. This year we were even lucky enough to receive free club level tickets to the Redskins game!
Every October the sisters of ZTA celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month by "Pinking Out" the Washington College Campus. We wrap ribbons on trees and buildings around campus, distribute information pamphlets to students and professors, and encourage the Washington College community to wear their pink ribbons and help spread awareness of Breast Cancer's impact on communities.
As a part of Breast Cancer Awarness month we also hold a Pink-Out game with one of the sports team to raise money for the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation. This year our pink-out game was held in conjunction with the WAC Woments Field Hockey team. The players wore pink prewrap and wore pink warm up shirts, as well as painting pink breast cancer ribbons on the field. The sisters sold concenssions such as popcorn and pink lemonaid, as selling raffle tickets.
Throughout the year ZTA works extra hard to spread the word about our philanthropy to the community. This year the chapter participated in the Chestertown Halloween parade where we handed out candy to children and pink ribbons to everyone at the parade. In addition every weekend in October sisters set up a booth in the Chestertown Farmer's market to hand out free educational materials to the community. The chapter also attends Race for the Cure to support all those who have been affected by Breast Cancer.
